Just got word that Azura Contemporary Asian Bistro, on Pine and Melrose, is closing tomorrow. Owned by a Japanese company that operates more than 4,000 eating establishments around the world, the restaurant didn’t find its identity quickly enough to wow Seattle customers (such as Weekly special correspondent Katie Becker, who wrote a happy hour box on Azura on January 31). Sales were up since the last concept-tweak, reports its PR spokesperson, but the company still shut Azura down and is considering moving the business to a larger site. Which is, in restaurant terms, declaring victory and retreating.
