Gyros–really, any kind of gyros–from Mawadda Cafe:Sometimes we choose what defines us because it is something that we have loved since childhood. Sometimes what defines us comes along much later. And sometimes it just sneaks right up on us, grabs ahold and won’t let go.This last way was how I found the gyros at Mawadda Cafe–perfect plates and sandwiches of delicately spiced lamb in a garlic sauce so good that if it’d been poured over a plateful of rocks, I would’ve gladly dug right in. I wasn’t expecting to find greatness at this tiny little strip mall Mediterranean outpost. All I was looking for was a quick lunch. But since stumbling across the place, I have been back several times and now count it among the tastes that will forever remind me of Seattle–of out-of-the-way places in strange neighborhoods with surprises always waiting for those just willing to go looking.
