Book Bindery opened last year in Queen Anne to much acclaim. Chef Shaun McCrain already has an impressive resume, including stints at a Michelin-two-star restaurant in France and the beloved Per Se in New York.If you’ve had the pleasure of eating at Book Bindery or seen some photos, you know McCrain’s plating can be quite picturesque. Dishes from the hamachi crudo to the foie gras terrine to the striped bass I ate there last month belong in some sort of culinary art museum. I like the feel of the open dining room, with two diners enjoying their meal in the foreground. But behind them, between large windows with a romantic outlook onto the ship canal, is the prominent feature in the room: large, built-in bookcases.When enjoying the pleasures in life, it helps to have a reference library. No one knows it all. Perhaps the best part of sex is that there’s always something new to learn. So why not keep a library right in your bedroom to spice up your sex life? Choose from erotica (fun to read together), sensual massage instruction, guides to couples-friendly porn, Kama Sutra-style books, and more. One I still like to recommend: Dan Anderson’s Sex Tips for Straight Women From a Gay Man. Right on target.When I was a teenager, I discovered paperback books piled high on my mother’s nightstand. One was in a plain brown wrapper. As soon as my parents left the house, I’d sneak into the room, pull out that book, and read with eyes wide open. The book: Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask. Yes, that book’s a bit vintage, and doesn’t have the highest quality information, but at least it was something. By the way, I took a quick glimpse at Book Bindery’s bookshelves, and it was all vintage–and no sex. Perhaps on my next visit, I’ll sneak something sexy into the collection to inspire diners’ post-dinner pleasure.
