Barocho

“A Northwest bar with a Latin infusion,” Barocho perches on the corner of Broad Street at the well-polished end of Western Avenue. The windows look out over the Sound and the mountains, and the inside has a clean, modern feel with Latin tunes playing constantly. At happy hour (5 to 7 p.m.) the three beers on tap (Stella Artois, Tecate, and Organic IPA) are $3, but this place is well suited for wine drinkers with its almost fragile ambience. A glass is $4, and the list goes from Terra Alto Blanco to Rago de las Monjas with a lot in between. There’s also a full bar, with well shots and mixes for $3. Selected food items are half off. Spicy chicken wings are a favorite as well as the plain cheese quesadilla (both $3). You can enjoy your food right at the bar, which is well suited for dining. Barocho is evidently Spanish slang for drunk, and with its clean, well-lit room and apt, friendly bartenders who seem to enjoy watching their patrons get inebriated, you might leave a little more tipsy than you expected. 2801 Western Ave., 206-728-4440.
