A couple weeks ago a reader asked where she should go out to dinner before a concert at Benaroya Hall. The catch: cheap parking. A little calling around produced a jeez-how-come-I-didn’t-know-that-years-ago? moment. According to the Pike Place Market website, if you park in the market lot on Western after 5 p.m. — in short, just enough time for a quick pre-concert meal — all the market restaurants will validate your parking. Sure, you only save $5, but free is free. The one catch is that the boundaries between what constitutes a market restaurant and what doesn’t aren’t entirely clear. Since Le Pichet and Virginia Inn on First Ave. rent their spaces from the market, they qualify for the discount, but Etta’s on Western and Local Color on Pike Place don’t. Still, you can leave your car after dinner, stroll up to the concert hall, and return before 1:00 a.m., even stopping in for a nightcap at Can Can or Shea’s Lounge before driving home.
