Admitting a passion for the Nylons is akin to saying you worship Billy Joel (which I do) or shop regularly at Wal-Mart (which I don’t, since my Ford Escort just died and I can’t drive out of town). They’re just not considered cool by some music snobs—until they start singing along to car-radio songs like Steam’s “Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)” or the Tokens’ “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Both of which this Canadian a cappella quartet have performed to wide acclaim over the past 27 years, with seven gold albums to their credit. Various members have come and gone, but tenor Claude Morrison remains to lead the group. The Nylons may boast flashy outfits and choreographed dance moves, but it’s their extensive song repertoire that matters. Their 2006 album Sterling includes the track “Me and the Boys,” which is just how close I feel to them.
