Just over a week ago San Diego indie-rock outfit Pinback announced that keyboardist Terrin Durfey, who has been battling cancer for the last decade, learned he relapsed and will have to undergo another round of intense treatment. The band set up a donation website, but they’re still planning to hit the rest of their October dates — as Durfey would probably want it. The power duo of singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalists Zach Smith and Rob Crow discovered a recipe for success in their style, laying entrancing vocals over purposeful guitar, syncopated rhythms and subtle electronic influences. 2007’s Autumn of the Seraphs was by all accounts a huge hit, and with four full length records behind them, Pinback is bound to please with a full arsenal.
