Luckyiam

Wednesday, July 2

If you’re doing a double-take at seeing Luckyiam of the LA-by-way-of-Oakland-based Living Legends crew on the bill at Nectar again, don’t stub out your blunt and promise, promise that you’re done smoking for real this time, as dude is back. Yes, he was here in April, but when you’re in the underground, you’ve gotta work. Witness the title of Luckyiam’s release from last August, Most Likely to Succeed. Doesn’t it exude industriousness? Indeed, many of the tracks, despite the easy-listening West Coast-soaked production, are about struggle and striving, from the jazzy reflection of “Borrowed Time” to the calm introspection of “On the Fly.” But my personal favorite is the Dirt Nasty-produced “Rap, Rap, Rap,” which is basically an advice column to aspiring MCs riding high on false expectations. Listen up, youngsters, because Luckyiam knows. With Ricky Pharoe, Tru I.D., 33 1/3, DJ Hyphen. Nectar, 412 N. 36th St., 632-2020. 9 p.m., $10.
