Hempfest

Party

Hempfest is back with the political, herbal agenda that the majority of FolkLife entertainers may “celebrate,” but don’t come right out and say: Legalize! Splash on your patchouli, grab your bongos, and head out to Myrtle Edwards Park for the 16th anniversary of this self-proclaimed “protestival.” Expected crowds upwards of 150,000 will be entertained by jam and reggae bands such as Flomotion and The Herbivores (subtle). For inspiring, educational speeches about the potential medicinal and societal benefits of legalizing marijuana, organizers have lined up representatives from NORML and High Times Magazine, court-certified cannabis experts from the Family Council on Drug Awareness, and many more professionals in political and scientific fields. And of course, pretty much everything under the moon, all made from hemp, will be for sale. Not to harsh your mellow, but look out for the I-5 closures en route, and keep in mind this is a drug-free event—so no trying to smoke that woven hemp shirt you just bought.
