Pure Cirkus

A lurid freak-show extravaganza

When I think of the club Heavens on a Friday night, I think of DJs, lasers, and thumping bass. I wouldn’t exactly think freaks, fire, and pole-dancing. (Well, maybe. It is Pioneer Square.) But tonight, Pure Cirkus, the Seattle Sinner, and Aberrant Art will transform Heavens into a big-top performance space geared for the kinky and wicked. Contributor Xavier Frost promises things you would never dream of seeing in a normal circus: “Our 22-act, three-hour show has everything from wondrous stilt walkers [to] ridiculous klowns and grinder girls spraying sparks onto the crowd [and] the amazing Madmat the freak doing his new ‘Dead Man Walking’ escape and the bullet catch.” Sounds like Moulin Rouge meets Tim Burton meets Barnum and Bailey, no? Pure Cirkus’ very own Midway Orchestra, a sextuplet of musicians playing up their metal roots and circus camp, will accompany the proceedings. Keep an eye out for a secret password out there that’ll get you cheaper tickets. Heavens, 172 S. Washington St.,. www.purecirkus.com/events. $10. 21+. 10 p.m. (doors at 8 p.m.). ALLISON HORD
