Blind Melon are back, and they’ve got someone to sit in for the
deceased Shannon Hoon. Who? Come on, you remember them. It’s
impossible to miss “No Rain.” The song is the “Sweet Home Alabama” of
the heroin era. It’s a 21st-century cross-platform wunderkind, as much
a part of adult rock programming as Tracy Chapman and everything off
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. CBS, are you listening? I’m
sure this Travis Warren fellow is a perfectly passable new frontman.
But let’s pay the bills here, people. Throw these Gen-Xers some
eyeliner and get them on prime time to find their new frontman with
Rock Star: Blind Melon. It’s all about the Benjamins, baby! With Top
Heavy Crush. CHRIS KORNELIS
Listen to a sample of Blind Melon’s “Wishing Well.”
