Sound Tribe Sector 9 and their incredible lightshow visited Showbox at the Market on Sunday, Feb. 21.I’ll admit, I went into this one pretty cold; I’d heard of STS9, and listened their records a handful of times before this week, but for once in my life I showed up to a concert with (relatively) few preconceived notions. And I was legitimately impressed. It may have been that Sound Tribe fans, possibly the spaciest and dreadlocks-iest of any I’ve encountered, were also by far the nicest; instead of being jostled near the barricade, I made friends. Oh, and did I mention there was an artist jamming on his sidestage canvas with brushes and spray cans during the set? The stage antics might not have been wild–or, honestly, existent–but watching the crowd dance with throbbing bass synth rattling my ribcage… priceless.More photos after the jump.Painting jam!Hunter Brown on guitar, laptop and midi keys.David Murphy on bass, laptop and midi keys.
