Our (in)famous grey Februarys always get me down, but this year’s couldn’t have been all that soul-crushing, judging by the Reverb entry I made on February 2nd: “At Georgetown spot Jules Maes on Friday, No-Fi Soul Rebellion’s male half, Mark Heimer, worked his way around the room with a cordless mike, getting up in peoples’ faces; his wife, Andrea, played guitar while lying on her back. Mark then commanded people to ‘get low’ and ‘get lower!!’ until everyone was literally lying on the floor with Andrea. And what happened next still baffles me—the duo’s groovebox started playing Enigma’s ‘Return to Innocence’—and the whole damn place sang along to the chorus. Repeatedly. ‘Uh-yi-yi-aaiii-oh-i-yah-yah. . . . ’” Anything else I could say about the band pales. They’re the wildest wild card in town.
