PDXplore with A Weather + Laura Gibson

Friday, August 31

I’d like to shake the hand of KEXP’s PDXplore creator. The genius monthly night hauls up Portland bands from down south and showcases their sounds on the Seattle stage. I have them to thank in part for highlighting Rose City standouts like Dolorean, whose You Can’t Win tops my list of releases this year. Tonight’s pairing mirrors autumn’s approach in the Pacific Northwest, with its slow, sneaky chill and sepia tone. Conor Oberst’s Team Love label saw the talent in headliner A Weather’s subtle, slow male and female mingling harmonies, that are executed softly over a wind-blown backdrop of acoustic strums with a sleepy, bedtime-voiced delivery. Their whispered hush should complement the quiet folk tunes of opener Laura Gibson, whose lovely croon can easily be lost beneath the hazy din of barroom chatter.
