Brooklyn’s Xiu Xiu is one of the more bizarre bands on Kill Rock Stars’ lineup. Their most recent video, “Dear God, I Hate Myself,” off the record of the same name, features pianist Angela Seo sticking her fingers in her throat trying to vomit, and that’s it (click here if you have to). If you purchased the limited edition vinyl set of Dear God, I Hate Myself, you also received a t-shirt with “Xiu Xiu For Life” written in human blood. Now the band (whose current lineup is Seo, Jamie Stewart, and Ches Smith) has sent out an email requesting the following: During this tour, Xiu Xiu will be giving away a special package (one per show) containing a Xiu Xiu comb and sticker pack to the first person at every show who brings them a lock of their hair taped to a card with their name on it. When they return home from tour, they’ll make a video lighting each lock of hair on fire while saying the persons name and inhaling the smoke. This is weird, man. But Xiu Xiu has such a rabid and devoted following, I have no doubts that they’ll be able to pull of this project. Good luck, I guess?
