Gaytheist is an excellently-named, melodically sound hard rock band from Portland that is signed to heavy Seattle record label Good to Die. The band plays with plenty of urgency and distortion, but their sound is far from dark; the trio balances heaviness with vocals that are audibly sung as often as yelled, and riffs that signal a party more often than a fight. The band’s tracks are short, loud, and sprinkled with great lines (“Fuck sex, let’s dance and call it romance”, “I want this adventure, but I’m so scared/so I sit and wait in my underwear”, etc.). This show should satisfy the mosh-pit-seeking metalhead and the dance-happy Capitol Hillbilly just the same. With Argonaut, Princess, Transient. TODD HAMM
