Madhur Jaffrey

Winner of six James Beard awards for her cookbooks, Madhur Jaffrey might be the most recognized name in Indian cookbookery. Her new just-released tome, At Home With Madhur Jaffrey: Simple, Delectable Dishes from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka promises to make it easy to concoct exotic dishes in your own kitchen. Instead of consuming cartons of take-out curries swimming in mystery spices, try creating you’ll whip up dishes like a two-egg Masala omelette, Bangladeshi fish curry, rice pudding (kheer) with saffron and nuts, and sweet mango lassi. Jaffrey has crafted her recipes for easier simpler preparation, reducing the number of ingredients, offering shortcuts, and doing away with some of the fussier steps in more traditional cooking. She offers easy-to-follow directions, in the hopes that her text won’t live on your bookshelf, to be appreciated only for its pretty pictures, but will gets its pages dirty with use.
