Fired Up, Ready to Wear

Sure, Barack Obama got 500,000 new donors into the game last month alone, but it still feels like you’ve got to cough up a lot of cash to make a difference. Maybe not. Local artists Pam Keeley and Fay Jones have invited a couple dozen of their peers from all different media to design politically themed T-shirts. They plan to sell them tonight for $25 apiece at the appropriately titled Fired Up, Ready to Wear fundraiser. All proceeds go to the Obama campaign—and you can get more mileage out of your donation by wearing your sentiments on the street. “In this political, historical, very pregnant moment … I just haven’t seen much going on in the art community around this election,” says Keeley, who was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver. The organizers have no advance idea what the designs will look like, but they haven’t had any trouble finding artists to participate. Get there early, these collectable wearables will go fast.
