Patton Oswalt is like a really cool uncle. By day, he entertains kids with voiceover work (he was the adorable cooking rodent in Ratatouille). By night, he entertains adults with jokes about walrus rape and the inherent schadenfreude of watching Cops. (Sitcom fans will also recognize him from more than 100 episodes of The King of Queens, a show he managed to make suck less.) Oswalt’s stand-up condemns both American consumerism and pop-culture excess, familiar territory for all the alt-comic wannabes with dreams of Bill Hicks in their eyes. But his angry, regular-guy approach doesn’t seem forced. He’s genuinely likable, unafraid to be goofy in his comedic opinions. He’s equally at home criticizing George W. Bush or comparing Los Angeles to Satan’s penis. (Trust me, the metaphor makes sense when he says it.) Kyle Kinane opens. Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave., 467-5510, www.themoore.com. $23. 8 p.m. FRANK PAIVA
Sat., Sept. 6, 8 p.m., 2008
