You know Michael Savage, right? Best-selling author. Syndicated right-wing talk radio host. Jefe de Maximum of the the Savage Nation. The guy who once said this. Of course you do. But did you also know that Mr. Savage’s (real name: Michael Alan Weiner) begotten son Russell was also the CEO of Bumbershoot sponsor Rockstar Energy, purveyors of Rockstar Energy Drink aka: Go-hard juice for the popped collar set? Well, earlier this year, Weiner the younger got into a bit of a tiff with popular LGBTQ-centric blog The Bilerco Project after a guest blogger revealed his family lineage, claiming that the sweet-tart flavored energy tonic was not only created by his father, who in a previous life was a noted herbalist, but that Weiner Savage was still profiting from its sale. Additional reports had Russell Weiner founding the Paul Revere Society, a right leaning group that advocates for traditional marriage. Savage later denied the claims. Then his son got litigation-happy, threatening the Bilerco Project and other blogs who picked up the story with lawsuit if the offending post was not taken down. The two sides later made nice, albeit after a boycott that seems now to have lost steam. Still, turd in the punchbowl be damned, consider that Bumbershoot attendees when your revels are interrupted by some pretty young thing in a black and electric yellow midriff hawking cans of liquid diabetes. Just sayin’.Update: Tony Guilfoye, a spokeman for Rockstar Energy, informs that the Paul Revere Society, while a right-leaning org, does not advocate for traditional marriage and that Russell Weiner has since helping found the group ceased being an active member. He also passed on a link to the change.org report on Rockstar’s work with LGBT groups.
