Who could maul this face? This is the kind of thing that you forget happens to people: Bellevue City Council member John Chelminiak was attacked by an especially bold 8-to-10-year-old, 149-pound female black bear on Friday night in the driveway of his family’s vacation home near Lake Wenatchee while walking his two dogs. He was left with bites and other wounds all over his body, but apparently still managed to remember his wedding anniversary Sunday. The Times reports that Sunday was their “lucky 13th.” While it was pretty lucky that he wasn’t killed and that it looks like he’s going to be just fine, it might have been luckier had he not been mauled by a bear two days prior. The bear, who was apparently underweight and malnourished, was very unlucky, and was killed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife a few hours after the attack. No word on the dogs.
