We saw Doug Baldwin score a touchdown that put the Seahawks up

We saw Doug Baldwin score a touchdown that put the Seahawks up by 10 points. Then we saw the flag for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

What we didn’t see was the infamous “poopdown.” And now we know why.

As WIS-TV in South Carolina reports today, it was a former director at the station, and more specifically the voice of his dead mother, that kept a national TV audience from seeing Baldwin’s defecation celebration. John Howard, the technical director for Super Bowl XLIX, made the call to cut away. In a Facebook post describing the fateful moment, Howard credits his “guardian angel” for warning him, “‘Hey, be careful…that idiot who just scored is gonna pretend to drop his pants and poop out a football.’”

Here’s Howard’s full Facebook post, as reported by WIS-TV:

“And to my guardian angel, Dawn Howard, I continue to feel you and hear your voice in every thing I do…all the way do to the subtle ‘Hey, be careful…that idiot who just scored is gonna pretend to drop his pants and poop out a football…you may want to hasten that cut.’”

As Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reported this afternoon, the Seahawks cleaned out their lockers today following the team’s devastating Super Bowl loss and Baldwin told reporters he doesn’t regret the poopdown.
