There were shows to watch, discrimination to unearth and VPILFs to follow during the week of September 3 through 9, and our readers were along for the ride. Check out comments on the stories here, then follow the link back to the original piece.Published on September 9, 2008

Phinney Ridge vs. Greenwood (A Tale of Two Sandwich Boards): The sandwich board comparison sums it up well. On the bright side we have a homey Greenwood market, a vacated McDonalds, a vacated tullys, a throwbacks for a freddys, a future brewery pub, a core street intersection, all giving GW dinstinction and funky uniqueness. In deference to the oddest of odd street platting, the southbound GW Ave approach to 85th swerves you around making a perfect Chamber slogan: Greenwood – A little bent but not out of shape. – Submitted by peter

Religious Discrimination at the Best Western?: I hope she wins the lawsuit. That is pure religious discrimination, if they ever did that to me for my pentacle (very tasteful and simple, small, and silver) then I would sue as well. – Submitted by KittenKoder
Croc Set for a late January/early February opening!!!!: Thank you so much for continuing to dig around on this story, and for sharing the details with us ASAP. I do believe they ought to put that damned column/pole in the EMP aE” my friends and I discussed that for years, long before the Croc closed. Most museum-goers wouldn’t get it, but the rest of us certainly would. – Submitted by rlv
The 10 Most Awesome Costumes at the 2008 Penny Arcade Expo: Under that costume was a very large black WOMAN. The mask was more convenient than lots of makeup. I’m the blur on the left. – Submitted by M from Victoria, BC

Say it Loud: Illegal and Proud: My husband and I were called to interviews for 6 years, and every time we took time off from work to attend these interviews we had wait about four hours. The meetings usually took about 10 minutes, during which time we were regarded suspiciously and questioned about the validity of our marriage. At the final interview, the agent did apologize that the clerks had brushed us off for so long, but then she questioned a longtime friend of mine, who had actually been a witness at our wedding, and asked if I was gay. It’s been insult after insult, example after example of their incompetancy, lack of trust, lack of respect, inefficiency, etc. – Submitted by Amber

Sarah Palin: The GOP Taps Their Inner Chavez: If the Democratic Party spent more time actually doing something in Congress this past year, the election would be theirs. But,no, here we are again with the Dems whining incessantly about everything. Have you not learned that going negative doesn’t work? Did you not learn from the John Kerry fiasco? The Dems had that election WON, and yet still found a way to lose it. The only Dem success in the past 20 years has been Bill Clinton, and he had to co-opt the GOP plank (much to his credit). – Submitted by Vern

PsychicaE™s Donation Not Accepted: I am sorry to say that it sounds like someone in the office staff is making a Judgement call based on their personal religious beliefs and not keeping state and it’s perception of religion separate. I am disappointed that some people don’t believe in it has become a validated excuse for discrimination. I support her decision to keep trying and perhaps by next year King County will have gained some enlightenment toward the realization of their chosen namesakes’ (Martin Luther King, Jr) dream of equality under the Law. She is, by the way, really good at it! – Submitted by Jan from Seattle
