The Washington Traffic Safety Commission’s summertime anti-drunk driving program (“Drive Hammered, Get Nailed”) has come to a close. And you know what that means: time to peruse the results. All told, Washington traffic cops arrested a total of 2818 drivers for Driving Under the Influence during the month long program, with 628 of those arrests occurring right here in King County. That’s an increase over last year’s campaign which netted just 351 arrests, though it ran a week shorter. With 486 fatalities in the last four years, King County remains tops in the state for impaired driver related deaths. As such, the program is part of the Commission’s latest get tough on drunk driving initiative, designed no doubt prevent some usurper from taking current DUI King Robert Castle’s throne.
