The transaction I had with a Starbucks barista downtown this morning:Me: So, what’s the deal with tomorrow? Barista: U-u-u-uh…?Me: You know…the 4.8.08…the ads…you’re supposed to be wiping the slate clean tomorrow.Barista: Oh…yeah…I don’t know. Me: Don’t know?Barista: Oh…yeah, I guess we’re unveiling the new Pike Place Roast. Supposed to be, like, the best coffee you’ve ever had in your life.Me: Really? Barista: Uh-huh…Me: Have you had it?Barista: Me? No. I don’t think anyone has.(Also, the 3-hour time difference works in our favor tomorrow, folks. Starbucks announced it will be giving away free coffee tomorrow at Noon EST. I asked the manager of a downtown Starbucks if that meant noon here as well. She replied: “No…we’ll be giving it away at 9 a.m. Ssshhh!”)
