The race to replace Rep. Brian Baird in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District has its front-runner, as former state House Majority Leader Denny Heck announced his candidacy yesterday. In one of the most competitive districts in the country, Heck isn’t alone in his desire to replace Baird. More than eight Republicans and Democrats have also announced their candidacy. But Heck stands out from the crowded field thanks to the multitude of his experience. He’s got political chops (five terms in the House), not only for his experience in chambers Since Baird announced his retirement in early December, Ron DotzauerDenny Heck and I have been friends since 1972 to 1973. He’s almost Let me put it this way, he’s going to be tough to beat. At least in the primaries. I would make him the favorite to win the whole thing outright. There’s nobody who can match his resume. I’m still trying to figure out why he wants to do it. He certainly doesn’t need the job. Or the headache.I talk to him every day. About. His resume. His credentials. He’s the guy, I’ve been around a lot of members in Congress, this guy could hit the ground running like nobody I’ve ever met. He has amazing credentials to be a member of Congress. You just don’t find many people with that kind of a background that want to subject themselves to the abuse of running for office and serving in office. He’s got a good life. He’s comfortable. And he doesn’t need to put up with the bullshit that comes with the job. To be very candid about this, they’d be lucky to have him.http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/archives/190196.asp
