The place: Second and Union. The time: about 5 o’clock Monday night. The weather: warm and wet, a gentle rain wafting down on tired evening commuters. And who should I see leading a posse of two-wheeled staff members along the sidewalk by Chase Center? Our new mayor, who first drew my gaze owing to his very formal-looking cycling attire. “Who rides in a suit while bicycling?” I thought to myself upon first spying the procession. Then, as it drew closer, I wondered, “And who wears a tie on a bike?” Mike McGinn, that’s who. And as he rode (lawfully, yes) along the sidewalk, then crossed with the light, helmet perched atop his head, he gave me a smile as I snapped the unfortunately blurry iPhone photo above. So count that as one more campaign promise kept. And one more voter impressed (even if I voted against him, pre-tunnel flip-flop.)
