The Pet Lady

DEAR PET LADY,

Fortunately, I have no problem with my dog right now, but am having some trouble with my 1960 Corvair. I noticed from an old article that you have a Corvair—who is your mechanic??? I can’t seem to find anyone in the Seattle area who works on them!

Referral Needed

DEAR REFERRAL NEEDED,

Greetings, Corvair friend! Assuming your fair vehicle is a Monza, the Pet Lady would like to call your attention to the fact that you are piloting Motor Trend‘s 1960 Car of the Year! But perhaps you are already aware of this. The right front headlamp of the Corvair Monza convertible, 1963 (not the Car of the Year, sadly), of the P.L. recently ceased its production of light; how are the headlamps of your auto? The P.L. subsequently noticed that many, many automobiles in the Seattle area were out and about nocturnally without the benefit of both headlamps, including five oncoming cars in a row on a Capitol Hill street. Coincidence? The P.L. thinks not. Could some sort of atmospheric shift be causing headlamps to burn out all over town? The opinions of any esteemed meteorologist readers would be welcomed on this point.

The Pet Lady went to the Auto Supply Shop of the Year (an honor conveyed by the P.L. that may be extended indefinitely), Roosevelt Auto Parts Inc., to obtain a new headlamp; having been glimpsed merely looking at the lamp in question upon arrival, the P.L. was presented with not one but two potential replacement headlamps (one standard and one halogen) by the nice gentleman inside. The Pet Lady applauds this nearly prescient level of service, as well as the gentleman’s willingness to reveal under questioning that the difference between name-brand 10W30 oil and the house brand is, and only is, 60 cents. In addition, the Shop of the Year is giving away a lovely spiral-bound calendar featuring photographs of many tricked-out classic automobiles (no Corvairs, alas—maybe next year).

So, if your automotive difficulties are such that you may fix them yourself, as the Pet Lady did the deceased headlamp (cursing and in the dark, of course, but successfully), you would do well to get yourself out to 65th and 12th. Should your problem be more severe, Referral Needed, allow the P.L. to provide you with a referral to the magnificent M&N Specialty Inc.; Danny or one of his associates will be happy to consult with you regarding your Corvair’s ailments and cure them at a fair price in fair Ballard.

Best to you and both your fur and automobile friends,

The Pet Lady
