The New York Times is reporting that the MacArthur Foundation will name Seattle filmmaker James Longley one of its “genius” award grant winners. Further details will come Tuesday. Longley is best known for his acclaimed, Oscar-nominated 2006 documentary Iraq in Fragments. He was also recently in the news this summer when get got detained while filming in Iran. He also directed the 2003 documentary Gaza Strip, which, like Iraq in Fragments, was produced by local company Arab Film Distribution. So we hope that a new documentary on Iran is forthcoming. And congratulations to Longley.
