The Landmarks Preservation Board says that the Lloyd Building, a 10-story structure

The Landmarks Preservation Board says that the Lloyd Building, a 10-story structure built in 1926 in the Denny Triangle, is a “unique example of Beaux Arts Renaissance Revival Style” and therefore deserves protected status. The building’s owner’s, however, say it’s just a “box with ornamentation.” And that’s not all.In a lawsuit filed last week, Comprise Ventures LLC say the Lloyd Building is “a hodgepodge of design of no distinctive significance” that “lacks integrity.” Because no one on either side of the lawsuit is talking, we’re not sure if Comprise means the building is structurally unstable or if it just lies a lot.The landmark designation would mean big headaches for the building’s owners if they ever decided to remodel or renovate. And it rules out their chances of ever tearing the building down and starting from scratch. Personally, after many a trip past it, I’d come down on the city’s side. The Lloyd is a nice antidote to the steel and glass skyscrapers that surround it. But what say you, fair reader? Is this building ugly?Hot or not?
