The Arizona Cardinals have reportedly put Matt Leinart on the trading block. Once thought of as the team’s quarterback of the future, the former USC star has had three disappointing seasons filled with inconsistent play, benchings, and too much partying. Which is why it’s terrifying that Seattle is apparently interested in trading for Leinart, thus setting up a reunion with his former coach Pete Carroll. In case you’d already repressed it, you might remember that the Seahawks had already traded for one career backup qb this offseason, getting swindled by San Diego for $10 million and a draft pick to land Charlie Whitehurst, a guy whose never taken a regular-season snap.Leinart is even less impressive. After being demoted (again) during training camp, he decided to play the victim. “I feel like I’ve outplayed the competition, training camp, pre-season,” Leinart said. “I think my play speaks about that. For me, this goes beyond the football field.”If you’re counting at home, that’s a guy who, for his career, has thrown six more interceptions than touchdowns explaining why he deserves to start over Pro Bowler Derek Anderson. Not good mojo, considering Leinart’s best work since he made the NFL has come off the field.
