The 31-year-old Sultan youth pastor and part-time football coach got high praise from his bosses. “I thought he was a good coach. I thought that he cared about kids,” Sultan School District Superintendent Dan Chaplik told KIRO. The problem came, however, when he was accused of caring for one of those kids just a little too much. The coach’s relationship with a 17-year-old girl who’s now a graduate first came to light last month, when another parent came forward with the allegations. At first the coach denied anything inappropriate happened. But a couple weeks later he changed his story. Perhaps because his wife allegedly intercepted a damning text message between her husband and the teenage girl. The coach was fired by the school district. And because having sex with one of your students is generally frowned upon at church (calm down; I said “generally”), the man was also relieved of his duties as youth pastor. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating, but so far no charges have been filed.
