Testicle jokes are funny, unless it’s your testicle people are joking about. Then it can get old. At least, that’s the experience of Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre. As you probably know, he’s been on the Disabled List for a few weeks now with a contused testicle, the result of a bad-hop groundball and his own resistance to wearing a cup. Well, he returned to the lineup last night, and apparently he won’t be answering any more questions about his groin protection. (Previously, he’d indicated that he’ll probably wear a cup while healing, but perhaps not after that.) Thus, press duties fell to manager Don Wakamatsu, who laconically declared, “Adrian will wear a cup tonight.” While Beltre could avoid the press, he couldn’t avoid his teammates: Ken Griffey Jr. got the public address announcer to play “The Nutracker Suite” as Beltre approached the plate for his first plate appearance since the injury. In other Mariners news, the team scored its first run in 18 innings last night, en route to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (the Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse of MLB). Way to go, M’s!
