Tacoma native Vicci Martinez has been performing her brand of bluesy guitar rock since she was a teenager. So even though she’s only 26, she’s already a showbiz veteran, having opened for the likes of Annie Lennox and B.B. King. Martinez is only 5’1″, but has mighty pipes—which is why it’s appropriate that the platform that finally brought her a national audience was this year’s inaugural season of NBC’s singing competition The Voice. Sailing through early rounds with soulful, robust renditions of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” Florence and the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over,” and Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Martinez made it all the way into the show’s top four, thanks to her whirling, warrior-like energy and that belting, no-holds-barred voice, making her the best possible singer to have represented Washington state.
