So imagine this. You’re a young woman walking in Capitol Hill at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning. (What are you doing out so late? Call a cab, why dontcha.) Two boys wearing baseball jerseys and shorts, one no older than 11-years-old, walk up to you carrying a pistol and demand your purse. What do you do?If you’re the young woman who actually had this scenario play out this past weekend, you hesitate at first. Because this one kid? He’s literally a middle-schooler. The kind that probably still cries after a skinned knee. Only about five feet tall and 100 pounds. And the other one, the one holding the gun, looks like he might be, at most, 14. Still pretty young. So maybe you’re in shock that these two boys — which is what they are: boys — could be out so late and with such nefarious intent. At first you refuse to hand over your purse. You’re still not sure if you’re supposed to take them seriously. At which point the older boy handling the gun cocks it, a we’re-definitely-not-playing-around move that could mean he just chambered a round. Then you wisely give up the goods. After handing over her purse, SPD says the woman in question ran to Broadway to flag down the police. She says she saw the boys hop into a car that then peeled away. But given the adrenaline that must have been flowing through her and her first priority, which was to get the hell out of Dodge, she didn’t see if they were the ones driving or which way they were headed.(H/T: Capitol Hill Blog)
