Secretary of State Sam Reed insisted the Washington primary was meaningful, even for Democrats. He held press conferences, sent out promotional materials, even held a mock primary for kids ineligible to vote in the real deal. At 7:15 a.m. the Wednesday after Super Tuesday, he held a teleconference where he predicted voter turnout for the $9.6 million poll would be 47 percent. The latest numbers posted on his Web site with nearly all precincts reporting show turnout for both parties at around 27 percent. In heavily Democratic King County, it was hovering at 15 percent.
