Say what you want about the man who allegedly robbed the Queen Anne Safeway- Wells Fargo Bank today, but don’t call him original.

As Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt details on the SPD Blotter blog, police say they were called to the Queen Anne Safeway- Wells Fargo Bank shortly after noon today, responding to reports of a man in a Scream Halloween mask who had robbed the place. According to Witt, the man allegedly “implied a weapon and jumped over the counter and demanded money.” According to Witt’s account: After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the bank.”

Unfortunately for the suspect, police say he didn’t have much time to enjoy his bank-robbing windfall. He was located a short time later in his vehicle near Taylor Ave. N and N. Mercer Street, and taken into custody without incident. Witt says the man will be booked into King County Jail after being processed at Seattle Police Headquarters.

While the Scream mask bank robbery may seem like a good idea, a quick Google search reveals it’s anything but original. In June 2012 a suspect robbed a bank in Oakwood, Ohio, donning the ghoulish costume. In October 2010 a suspect robbed a bank near Albuquerque New Mexico in a Scream mask. In 2011 a plot of two men in Palm Harbor, Florida to rob a bank on Halloween while doing their best impression of the Edvard Munch painting was foiled by police. And that’s just the start.

Perhaps it’s safe to say the unsuccessful bank robbery is the most lasting legacy of the 1996 Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Drew Barrymore joint.
