Reader Michelle responds to Can’t Shake Bill Collectors? Then Sue ‘Em.”Although I do not agree with the morals of the man who sued the debt collectors, because he did not pay his debt, I do find this article interesting. It is nice to know that real people may have some defense against the debt collection companies. Even though a lawsuit is probably not the way most would want to go but if it comes to that then most would oblige. “I am more interested in the part where the man had received bad marks because of his old girlfriend. I am curious if this man had received any kind of compensation from a lawsuit or other means. I myself have been pounded by debt collectors for debt my ex-husband has incurred and we have not been married for fifteen years.”Some of the debt was during the marriage and some after but I have still received phone calls on both. I guess if you are ever married to someone the debt collectors think you are responsible for life. During the divorce he took his debt and I took mine. Unfortunately, I paid mine and, needless to say, he did not. “There have been many debt collectors that have told me a court order means nothing because we were married when his debt was incurred. I have yet to find out if that is legal for them to do but this article may lead me in the right direction.”
