Principal Oksana Britsova was back at school Thursday.

As you’ll recall, Britsova was placed on paid administrative leave by the Seattle School District on Tuesday, Oct. 28 – a day after a Center School student showed up with a Molotov cocktail. Though no one was injured in the incident, the student was arrested, and interim Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Larry Nyland sent a letter home to parents saying that the school had “effectively implemented their emergency plan,” Britsova was nonetheless singled out for investigation, with Nyland declaring that the district needed to “ensure that all protocols were followed.” Stacy Howard, the district’s media relations specialist, told Seattle Weekly at the time that normally such an action would not be necessary, but “in this case there were a lot of parties involved.” Howard said there was “a need for a further investigation.”

As of today, however, that investigation is apparently complete and Britsova is back at work. Nyland announced this afternoon that, “The review is now complete and concluded that there were no issues with how Principal Britsova handled the situation.”

That’s not to say nothing came of the investigation, however. According to Nyland’s statement, the district will look to make security improvements in the future as a result of their findings.

“Our review led us to take a deeper look at our procedures and we are working on making some additional improvements in our security communications,” Nyland says. “Center School staff members have spent time debriefing the incident, and the school’s building leadership team met on Tuesday afternoon to revise the shelter-in-place protocol. Staff will be looking at other emergency protocols in the near future as well. … Districtwide, all principals on Tuesday attended a training session, held in conjunction with the Seattle Police Department, to review threat management, security protocols and crisis communications.”
