The Nickelodeons have indicated they don’t plan to leave. The city has tacked up signs saying they must, by 5 p.m. Thursday. The Highland Park neighborhood, which has been vehemently opposed to the city’s proposal to build a prison on the site now occupied by the homeless (and 150 hot-pink tents), voted Monday night to send a letter to the mayor in support of the encampment. Reports are that it has grown to 65 people, housed and homeless alike– and that new Nickelsville residents continue to trickle in. Yesterday’s task was to get wood pallets to raise the tents off the ground. “We’re breaking the place in,” says one of the organizers.
