OK, OK, so Hari Kondabolu isn’t technically from Seattle. He was born and raised in New York and he went to college on the East Coast. But he got his start in stand-up comedy in the Emerald City, and once worked for the local immigrant-rights group Hate Free Zone (created in the months following 9/11, and now called OneAmerica), so we’re claiming him as our own. And besides, he makes fun of Portland sometimes, and that alone is enough to make him an honorary Seattleite. Here’s his bit about Portland:Jokes.comHari Kondabolu – Progressive Citycomedians.comedycentral.comJokesJoke of the DayFunny JokesSome of Kondabolu’s best jokes riff on Middle Eastern stereotypes, and he is as profane as he is intelligent: He left our city in 2007 to get his master’s in human rights from the London School of Economics. His brother Ashok is in the hip-hop group Das Racist.Kondabolu has performed all over Seattle, including a show at the Showbox Market that was famously attended by Bill Gates. (Insert joke about Gates confusing the Indian comedian with a Microsoft employee here.) He’s made quite a name for himself in the comedy world–even if people constantly mispronounce that name–appearing on HBO, Jimmy Kimmel, and Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham. Watch more hilarious clips of him here, then tune in tonight at 11 on Comedy Central for his half-hour-long special.
