Northwest filmmaker James Longley received an Academy Award nomination for his 2006 documentary Iraq in Fragments, which he rather courageously filmed during the early stages of the Iraq War. Now he’s turned his camera to Iran, as he reports in the Huffington Post.Longley was detained by police in Tehran while attempting to film protests of the recent, disputed election. The HP quotes him as follows: “It was clear that they didn’t intend to beat me–although they may have wanted to–because I was a foreigner.”Let’s hope he and his translator, who was beaten, are soon freed to continue their reporting.
