Nice earrings. It’s already been established that Rhonda Breard could use a little extra coin these days. The Kirkland securities broker is alleged to have stolen $8 million from 20 clients. Money she used to fund a tony lifestyle that included two homes, eight cars, six snowmobiles, three jet skis, a motorhome and a whole lot of jewelry she’s having a hard time getting rid of.As the Times reports, last week Breard came to Elegante Jewelry owner Doug Davis saying she wanted to sell a huge amount of gold and silver jewelry. The Bellevue shop owner was confused.Normally he deals with estate sales. He rarely sees a client who wants to unload mostly new, mostly unworn pieces.Sensing something was up, Davis Googled Breard and discovered why she was in such a rush to sell off so much stuff: she’s a heartbeat away from being charged by federal prosecutors.Davis would have been faulted by no one for going through with the sale. He is, after all, a businessman. This is a recession. And Breard is the definition of a “motivated seller.” But Davis apparently believes in a little thing called karma.”Our economy today has presented many challenges to all of us,” he told the Times. “And in our business we have found ourselves dealing with people that are having financial difficulty, but we could not in good conscience purchase her jewelry.”Breard’s jewels, as far as anyone knows, remain unsold. And Davis, for his part, has just assured himself a friendly visit with St. Peter when the time arrives. (And a lot of good press in the interim.)
