Mustaches will converge on Capitol Hill tonight. Only, breaking from the norm, tonight they’ll be pink instead of merely ironic.

According to a spokesperson for Lyft, one of the three upstart, app-based ride-share outfits I profiled in my recent cover story on the changing transportation landscape in Seattle, tonight at 5:30 p.m. Lyft drivers, riders and supporters will gather at Fred Wildlife Refuge to share personal Lyft stories and explain why “peer-to-peer transportation makes Seattle safer, more affordable, and more connected.” Along with local Lyft riders and drivers, co-founder John Zimmer is expected to be on hand, beating the drum for the transportation revolution he’s pushing and is currently being threatened by possible action from the City Council (for background, read the cover story here). The event is being billed as “Support the ‘Stache in Seattle.”

According to Lyft spokesperson Erin Simpson, there are countless stories emerging in Seattle of how Lyft has improved lives, made personal connection and made transportation easier and more affordable. One of the ideas behind tonight’s event is to shine a light on these stories, “in hopes to demonstrating to the City all the positive benefits,” of Lyft, according to Simpson.

“The goal is to bring the local community together – both drivers and passengers- and really share these stories,” she says.

Next Tuesday the City Council’s Committee on Taxi, For-Hire and Limousine Regulations is scheduled to review a long awaited demand study commissioned to help craft policy on the matter moving forward. According to Simpson, tonight’s meetup is designed to, “rally support in advance of the meeting,” saying that many of the people on hand tonight also plan to share their pro-Lyft stories with the council Sept. 3.
