Motorcyclist dies after driver fails to yield while making left turn

The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. near 21st Avenue SW and SW Campus Drive in Federal Way.

One man is dead after an 81-year-old driver failed to yield while making a left turn in Federal Way on Thursday afternoon.

At about 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 29, Federal Way patrol officers responded to a car versus motorcycle collision on 21st Ave SW just south of the intersection with SW Campus Drive, said Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of FWPD.

The motorcycle rider, a 30-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at Harborview Medical Center, Schwan said.

Based on preliminary investigation, police determined the vehicle’s driver, an 81-year-old woman, failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn into the Safeway grocery store parking lot.

There is no evidence at this time that drug/alcohol impairment was factor in this collision and Federal Way’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the collision, Schwan said.
