Maurice Clemmons: no one’s idea of a role model.Maurice Clemmons’ Thanksgiving weekend execution of four Lakewood police officers mostly inspired grief and compassion for the victims and their families. But for Michael McConnachie it apparently elicited a very different emotion: admiration.Snohomish County deputies arrested McConnachie at his Everett motel room yesterday after a potential accomplice told them the 19-year-old had tried to recruit him as a getaway driver in a “Lakewood-style” killing of police officers. The accomplice was in police custody as a burglary suspect. He told cops he’d gone to see McConnachie to get high when he was asked if he wanted to help him “merk” some deputies. (“Merk” being the kind of slang for killing used by “Call of Duty” fans.)McConnachie then allegedly showed the suspect his “arsenal” of weapons he had hidden under a mattress. Court documents say that when police eventually raided the motel room they found a pistol, a shotgun, two bulletproof vests, and black tar heroin.McConnachie told a judge he wasn’t actually serious about hurting anyone. But because of the recent spate of cop killings, he wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt. McConnachie is currently jailed for investigation of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault on $350,000 bail.
