Lowell Elementary Principal Julie Breidenbach will follow half of her advanced students to Thurgood Marshall next year, according to a just-released announcement by the Seattle School District naming new principal appointments as a result of its closure plans. This is a crucial appointment because Thurgood Marshall will undergo a transformation with the arrival of students from the Accelerated Progress Program as that program splits in two (half will remain at Lowell). Many APP families opposed the move, unsure how it would work. School Board President Michael DeBell hinted a couple weeks ago that one solution would be to appoint a principal familiar with advanced learning, and that indeed has come to pass. Longtime Thurgood Marshall principal Winifred Todd will be moving to Dunlap Elementary.
