Lockdown on Pinky!I overzealously signed up for every dog group on meetup.com in the city when I got my puppy. Now I’m being bombarded with e-mails regarding the potential anti dog chaining legislation that could be enacted by early next year. Councilmember Julia Patterson is sponsoring the motion to ban dog chaining in King County and a study on whether its feasible to implement the ban are due back by the end of this year.Confined dogs can show an increase in aggressive behavior toward other animals and dogs, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. The County’s gotten tons of e-mails flowing in to show support for the ban. But it’s also got its opponents; folks who think the ban violates their rights as pet owners and those who fear unchained dogs who are already aggressive present a potential threat to the public. Pinky will not be affected by the ban whether its implemented or not. She weighs four pounds, wears argyle sweaters, and prefers snuggling under the covers to getting her paws dirty. I doubt she’d even survive a day chained outside, as most crows are bigger than her.
