Jack Laurence, the Roosevelt High junior who is hoping for a spot

Jack Laurence, the Roosevelt High junior who is hoping for a spot at the Democratic National Convention as an at-large delegate for Hillary Clinton, picked up another endorsement from King County Councilmember Larry Phillips.“I’m an old member of Scoop’s troop(Senator Henry M. Jackson, Jack’s grandfather) so I think it’s great that the grandson of Scoop Jackson is very interested in becoming a delegate to the Democratic National Convention,” Phillips says. “He’s a great kid and he’s quite interested in Democratic national politics and so if we can advance that interest and spirit at the national level, I think that’s a good thing.” Jack already has King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson in his corner as well as Congressman Norm Dicks. Jack will find out this weekend at the Washington State Democratic Convention whether he will be one of five at-large delegates who represent Hillary Clinton at the national convention Aug. 25-28. Those delegates are elected by the 17 Clinton delegates who were selected at the state congressional caucuses May 17.Although Clinton has suspended her campaign, she probably won’t officially release her delegates to Obama until the national convention provides the maximum media exposure. So, Jack is entering the state convention this weekend still in Hillary’s corner. As long as she has delegates, Jack says he hopes to be one.
