It was a big crowd at that breakfast fundraiser, but they each only get one vote.Is it the return of Gregory Nickels? With such a huge field, Nickels is on top for the August primary according to a poll released today by Seattle Politico Bill Monto’s number crunching outfit, True Blue Innovations. The poll, sampling around 700 likely voters, tested issue priorities and things like the bag tax. But it also put Greg Nickels in the lead with 18 percent of the vote. Jan Drago came in second with 13 percent. The biggest winner (as has become typical in these polls) is Undecided with 40 percent. Interestingly, the poll also found Nickels losing by a landslide to Drago, James Donaldson, Joe Mallahan, or Mike McGinn in a head to head race. All of those races also had significant numbers of undecided voters so that hardly means Nickels is in serious trouble yet. But it does mean that while he may slide through the primary with ease, he’s got a big fight ahead of him between now and November.Long-time Seattle campaigner John Wyble’s outfit Win Power Strategies commissioned the poll The consulting firm has clients, notably David Bloom, in the city council races. Full poll results, including the slim rejection of the bag fee, are available in PDF format on True Blue’s blog.
